Who Is This Love? by Laura Atkinson

Is there really more to love than life itself?
Teasing us, with its intertwined braids
and that sharp glare
from the moment we were born in its company.

We’ve known it a long time, but it has changed.
Love, with the way it dresses,
love, with those wise-cracks.
Everyone else loves it, too —
love’s a flirt
so giddy, then so blunt.

Sooner or later, we tied the knot.
It gave us a lot to think about.

Love, love,
Remember how well we know you.
Do what you must.
Just let us be on your side in the end.
